Halloween Pumpkin Patterns
Halloween Decorations to Make

Thanks to Halloween pumpkin patterns, anyone can create a fantastic-looking display on their porch, in their flower bed or even in the home.

Do you remember years ago when you had to either draw or cut pumpkins freehand? There were some very sorry looking pumpkins back then!

Thankfully, you will never have to hide your head in shame again when someone looks at your masterpiece.

Choosing the Right Patterns

It is very easy to get a little overambitious when choosing between the many Halloween pumpkin patterns that are available. Everyone gets a little flutter in their stomach when they find their perfect pumpkin and will often start visioning what their end result will look like, even adults!

While there are a ton of pumpkin patterns to choose from, you don't want to pick one with a ridiculous amount of detail for your first pumpkin. This goes for kids too! They will often choose the most elaborate design and then end up very frustrated when they struggle during the creative process. Carving pumpkins should be fun, not stressful.

If you or your child really have your heart set on a pattern but there's more intricate detail than you think can be handled, just use it as a guide. Get a bright-colored magic marker and trace the lines you want to use, leaving the extra detail out.

What's Hot?

If this is your first time using pumpkin patterns, be prepared to become very excited! Of course, there are the traditional face patterns offering various expressions such as happy, sad, scared, scarey, nice, surprised, goofy, etc., but there's also so much more.

Believe it or not, you can even find pumpkin patterns in many other styles including skulls, suns, hearts, ghosts, jesters, spiders, scarecrows, cats, aliens, moons, hats, monsters like Frankenstein, lions and other animals and even some of your favorite cartoon characters! If you have a vision in your mind, there is a good chance that you will find a pattern to make it a reality.

How to Use Them

Halloween pumpkin patterns are easy to use for anyone of any age. All you need aside from the pattern and the pumpkin is a carving set, a few pieces of tape and you're ready to get started.

  • Scoop the Pumpkin – Cut a circle in the top of the pumpkin, leaving a notch in one spot so it's easy to figure out how the lid goes on. Scoop out all the pumpkin guts and be sure to save the seeds for roasting.

  • Prepare the Pattern – Trim the pattern down if needed so it fits on your pumpkin. If you cut a small slot on all four sides, you can get it to lay flat a little easier. Now, tape it so it's nice and tight and won't move.

  • Transfer – The easiest way to transfer Halloween pumpkin patterns is by using a drill tool or needle. Simply poke holes along the lines and then remove the pattern.

  • Carve – Very carefully, saw along the poked holes and push loose pieces through as needed. Keep your pattern handy to reference in case you get lost.

That's it! Once your edges are all nice and smoothed out, place a candle flat in the bottom, light it and watch it glow!
